Lenten Events and Regulations

LENTEN REGULATIONS

Catholics join in a common observance of penance during Lent. We set aside days to exercise works of prayer, fasting and charity.
Abstinence—not eating meat
Is for all Catholics 14 years and older
Is required on Ash Wednesday and all Fridays of Lent, including Good Friday
Fasting—eating only one full meal a day and not eating between meals
Is for all Catholics between the ages of 18 and 59
Only one full meal, two smaller meals are permitted if necessary to maintain strength according to one’s needs
Is required on Ash Wednesday & Good Friday

Exceptions: the obligation doesn’t apply to those whose health would be affected seriously. People in doubt about fasting or abstinence should consult a parish priest.
